After a very successful June meeting with [[David Nutt]] it is time to look forward to our September meeting. We welcome Tim Leunig who is coming to talk about UK Science Education Policy. Tim is, unusually for our group, not a scientist. He is an economic historian who has done a lot of work in understanding how developments in technology affected economic development in the nineteenth century. We are in the teeth of a technological revolution which is having profound effects on our society now. With his historical perspective he may be able to give a more incisive analysis of how we should best educate the next generation to thrive in what will, surely, be a very different Britain.

Note that we welcome members to attend just for the talk. There is no charge for this.

Unfortunately, this talk clashes with the Media Group event with Tom Braby. Apologies to all who wanted to attend both events.

For more details, please visit the [[Tim Leunig]] page.

= About Us =
Dates for our meetings in 2020 are as follows (future dates are always provisional):
The Reform Club Science and Technology Group was formed in July 2006 by a group of Club members who felt that prompted by a sense that almost all contemporary issues have a scientific or technological dimension. Our first speaker was Baroness Susan Greenfield giving a talk to us entitled "Ageing and the Brain" on 6th February 2007.
We will put this back when it has some shape.

The group’s focus is on the social and ethical implications of science and technology, rather than the complexities of the science itself. we aim to generate a high level of debate and dialogue, helping us all to get to grips with the real scientific issues behind the headlines we all see every day.

Speakers have come from all over the world, bringing a wide variety expertise. Unlike so many forums for debate, the Group benefits from a position of total independence from the scientific and political establishments, so that discussion about social and economic implications can be carried out in a spirit of open enquiry.
I am currently working on the 2022 programme. I hope to have talks on the following subjects:
